Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.662

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Tudor-style Victorian in Goshen, NY. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below along with a photo that shows the house in less glaring light. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x10 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's cycle I have continued to work exclusively on the house itself. Note the deep blue shadows. I've begun the lit brown areas of the house as well. These colors will change a bit before I'm done with the painting. You can begin to see the nice contrast these colors make.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.566

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Nyack, New York painting. I am using the photo seen directly below. The scene is Main street in Nyack, New York, a historic town on the Hudson River. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Changes are incremental for this week's cycle. Starting at the left side, I've added some paint to the hood of the Jeep. Just above, the trees have received another layer of green. They now stand prominently against the blue. The central tree now has a shadow running parallel to the newly darkened shadow of the SUV. Finally, the storefronts have been darkened in preparation for things to come.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Nyack, New York painting. I am using the photo seen directly below. The scene is Main street in Nyack, New York, a historic town on the Hudson River. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to add to the various elememts of the scene. Starting in the street, the roadway and 2 cars now appear with an initial layer of paint. The partial foreground car has a window and chrome surround. To the far rear, the two distant trees now have some green paint. The building facades have received multiple layers of paint, starting with yellow and overpainted with blue. The nearest building to the right clearly shows the result of that process.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.564

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. I am using the photo seen directly below. The scene is Main street in Nyack, New York, a historic town on the Hudson River. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 6x6 inch canvas.

I began with a pencil sketch of the scene on my usual grid. I would have been happy to show that to you but the photograph is just not dark enough to be seen on your monitor. So I have the sketch with paint added to clearly delineate the various elements. In addition to the blue outline of the scene, I have painted the sky and started the trees. There is much more to come.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.464

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with painting of the Cold Spring, New York house. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x8 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Starting at the top, I have given the roof some attention in the form of a layer of gray paint. Note that shadows remain in the prior blue beneath and to the right of the dormer window on the turret. The chimney has received similar treatment. To the far rear, I have added paint to the distant Hudson highlands. Note that the uppermost areas are brighter with darker shadowed areas closer to the base area. To the right, the structure of the porches has been laid out in blue. Out front, the lawn has received a layer of green paint.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.247

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the twilight Huson river painting. I'm using the photo seen directly below.

I will be using my usual acrylics on a small 4 by 5 inch gallery-style (thick) canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've now (mostly) completed those dramatic clouds. They meet the now complete hills of the Hudson highlands. Directly below the larger of the two hills, the reflection has received some additional paint as has the river itself. Finally, the roadway now has an additional paint layer as well as a line separating the shoulder.

Blue Hudson

Another shot from yesterday's snowstorm. The Hudson river, midstorm, with the white balance set on incandescent for that nice blue color.

Earlier today, looking east to west across the river. It was almost total whiteout.
