Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.442

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the turreted Cape May, New Jersey house. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on a 8x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I began this week's changes with the covered porch. The posts are now thicker as well as the header above. (I see that the railing is not all in line. Sigh.) I then turned to the other house, but things were not going well next door. I finally decided to paint out the house and put in a tree. Or at least the start of a tree. I mixed some greenish paint and painted in the lower portion. Some light greenish paint above was intended to lay a foundation for the sky. But when I looked again the next morning I realized that there should be two plants, the slightly more distant tree suggested by the lighter paint and the darker bush below. Why hadn't I seen that the night before when I applied the paint? Hmm.

Other changes include darker paint applied to the tree to the far rear and the street. Both will need more work.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.441

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the turreted Cape May, New Jersey house. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on a 8x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to work on the first story. Gone are the many confusing vertical elements. Only the porch posts remain. (They will need to be a bit thicker.) In the shadows behind the posts, a door frame and a window now appear. Note that the shadows on the porch posts follow the pattern of the elements above.

I have also changed the house next door. I've made it more uniform and added a roof line. I'm not sure if I should do anything further. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.440

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the turreted Cape May, New Jersey house. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on a 8x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week I have continued to move ahead on the house itself as well as some of the other elements. Starting at the top, I have added a layer of paint to the sky. It is not the final layer but simply evens things out for visual purposes. Moving down a bit, the roof of the turret has been repainted and now matches that of the porch. The prior inconsistency had been bugging me a bit. On the third story, I've reshaped some shadows just a bit. On the first story and below, I've refined things a bit but there is still much to do in this section. At the base, I've begun to paint the sidewalk. Finally, the structure next door has received its first layer of paint. It is a bit too dark and will change in future installments.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.439

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the turreted Cape May, New Jersey house. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on a 8x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to concentrate on the house, ignoring other elements for the time being. For this week's installment, I have continued to refine the upper stories, particularly the roof and windows. For lit areas of the roof, I have painted a yellowish gray. I may have to add a bit of blue for texture to the tower roof. Note that it is solid gray while the porch roof allows some of the earlier blue paint to show through. The windows have been reshaped and sized to appear similar. The body of the house now appears in a pale yellow shade. Finally, I've added details to the shady side of the house including windows and roof details.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

I have continued to refine the house. The shadows and windows are now darker and more solid. I've attempted to follow the interesting pattern of shadows just below the overhang of the 3rd story. These shadows are important in defining the shape of the house. I'm still making decisions about how things will appear. I'm going to leave the shady side details to a few dark blue lines, but that will be for an installment to come. I need to get the ochre out and paint the roof sections.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
