Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.420

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be with the painting of the Holbrook service station. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x8 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've continued to work on the structure. It now appears with its banded windows, further enhancing the width. Note that the door is partly obscured by the left side column. The underside of the overhang is now shadowed as well as the corresponding portion of the facade. The shadows continue on the right side foreground. Out in front, the sign's shadow now appears in gray as well.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've continued to refine the structure. The ovoid shape is now pronounced as well as the streamlining. I've darkened the window areas in preparation for the details that will come later on. Below, the sign's shadow makes its first appearance. Above the clouds are now uniform and ready for their details.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.418

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be with the painting of the Holbrook service station. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x8 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've continued to refine the building. It now appears in white with defining gray shadowed areas. Windows now punctuate the exterior. Things are starting to take shape. Above, the sky has lost its orange outlines. There is much left to do but you can get a good idea of how this will go.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.417

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be with the painting of the Holbrook service station. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x8 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Things went a little slowly this week. I did manage to cover some of the white expanses. The sky has received its first layer of paint. Paint now fills the spaces between the 2 large clouds. Below, the line of shrubs has been painted on either side of the station. Below that, the foreground has received some paint as well.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.416

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x8 gallery-wrapped canvas.

This is a building I have seen many times on my trips out west. This relic is located in the town of Holbrook, Arizona, where it stands just off route 40. It is a former service station from what is likely the late 1930s. The building is done in a fabulous streamlined ovoid style. I visit each time I go by just to see if anything has been done with it. It continues in a state of benign neglect. I finally decided to make use my photos and imortalize it in acrylic paint.

Below is another photo.

I started with a pencil grid followed by an outline in the sweet potato paint used in the last painting. I've added a layer of blue to define the sky.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.
