Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.354

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the southern Arizona scene. The photo that I am using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x8 inch gallery wrap canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

There are lots of changes for this week's cycle. I've made a number of additions to the background. To the far rear, the hills now have shadows and some texture. The result is more depth and dimension. In the foreground, texture and shading have been added. The bright orange I used produced good results. In between background and foreground now lives an area of rather bright green plants. I'm calling them junipers. In fact, most of the colors seen in the painting are brighter than the original photo. I like them here but would not find them appropriate in my Cape May pieces.

With these changes, the painting is complete. This one is going to the next show at the Kent Art Association. Drop by if you're in the neighborhood. One last thing, the photo has washed out the blues of the sky, and made the clouds difficult to see.

The current and final state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have an entirely new piece to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.353

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the southern Arizona scene. The photo that I am using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x8 inch gallery wrap canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

This week's cycle will require a close examination to see the changes. I've actually reworked much of the canvas including the foreground and the cactus. Note that the base of the cactus is now contoured to depict the various branches of the canvas. Previously it was a straight line and made for a flattened appearance. It is now a bit more three dimensional. I've added blue to the base and extended it to the shadow extending to the left side. Note that the shadow has its own contours reflecting the branches above. As to the foreground, I've added a couple of layers of paint, first a bright orange and then a light brown. It has given a bit more depth but this area is far from complete. There will likely be more layers before I'm done.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.352

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the southern Arizona scene. The photo that I am using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x8 inch gallery wrap canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I concentrated my efforts on the cactus itself for this week's installment. I've added the shadows and highlights. (Note that the cactus' ground shadow is in need of further work.) I've utilized 3 colors, blue, green and a new bright yellow acquired specifically for this purpose. (Note that the photo darkens things a bit.) Blue adds the right side shadows, yellow the left side highlights. The green resides in the central portion of each branch. This application imparts quite a bit of color to the canvas. However, I'm not sure that I'm completely happy with it. But before I make any changes, I am going to paint in more of the background to see how things look. That will be for next week.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.351

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the new southern Arizona scene. The photo that I am using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x8 inch gallery wrap canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to refine the 3 bands to the rear as well as the base blue layer of the organ cactus itself. The colors are now more apparent and more solid. I don't want this one to have too hard an edge and will begin details and some softening for next week.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
