Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.428

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will starting an entirely new painting, once again, of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on a large (for me) 12x12 gallery-wrapped canvas.

I took this shot on our hike down into the Grand Canyon this past summer. I took a number of shots of this particular view but this was the best of them. Seeing this scene again brings back that memory of those long 2 months ago. :-)

I began with a grid and then placed the various elements. I've attempted to place the major shadows to make things easier later on. Then I added a little paint. The sky has received its initial layer of paint as well as part of the outline below.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.427

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

There's hardly an area of the canvas that hasn't seen some change. First, I've reconfigured the orange highlights of the central section. I've reshaped and refined things a bit and added a few new highlights. Next, I moved on the the two trees in the foreground. They now have lit and shadowed areas. I've attempted to give them a nice evergreen texture. Finally, I've completed the sky. The photo has reduced the contrast somewhat. In the upper right corner is the long area of cloud seen in the photo. To the far rear are the clouds in the great distance, some white and others dark against the sky. The painting is now complete.

The current and final state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.426

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to work on the central portion of the painting. The orange highlights left by the setting sun now provide clear definition to the various formations spread out across the canyon. The shadowed areas have been painted in brown. To the far rear, the distant rocks appear in a lighter pink/purple shade. (Or it looks that way to my color blind eyes.)

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.425

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10x10 gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I began this week's installment by painting the dark formation in the left foreground. It is composed of several layers of paint. Note that the upper portion is yellow/brown and the lower section is green/blue. I attempted to have the details only just visible as in the photo. I then proceeded to darken the two trees in the right side foreground in preparation of paint to come. To the rear, I've also added the first layers. There is much left to do but the illusion of great space is starting to appear.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
