Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.511

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the brick Victorian house. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10 by 10 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Having already painted the large shadowed areas of the house, I began to paint the lit areas. I'm again using brighter than normal colors as I did in the last painting. The body of the house will be an orange color, a mixture of brown and ochre. It provides a highly brightened version of the brick seen in the original photo. As to the roof and foundation, I've gone my own way with a light brownish color. These colors seen to play well with the blue shadowed areas.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.510

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the brick Victorian house. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10 by 10 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I began by painting a rough sky and foreground in appropriate colors. Then I started to paint the shadows of the house. I'm going to do this one as I did the last, painting broad areas of light and shadow and then overpainting a more detailed layer. Next week I'll hopefully have that initial layer completed.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.509

Hello again painting fans.

This week starting an entirely new painting. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10 by 10 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

The photo shows a huge old brick Victorian house across the street from the Hudson Valley courthouse where I spend much of my working day. Amazingly, the house continues for some distance to the rear. Going around to the right would reveal a considerable facade that rivals what is seen here, only with far less brick. It will make for a nice subject. I will be using bright colors again. I really liked how the prior brightly colored painting looked and am ready to see what can be done here.

I started with a grid on the photo which was then transferred to the canvas. Then, using the grid as a guide, I drew the house on the canvas. I've even added a bit of blue paint.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.508

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene.  The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Last time the only thing left to do was the red SUV out in front. I have now completed that vehicle. The body of the car is still red but now with some thin whitish overpainting. Note the moldings and taillight. The lower molding continues the line of the curb seen to the right of the SUV. Next, I spent some time doing the rear wheel. Finally, the windows are handled with the same blue paint. The painting is now completed.

The current and final state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.507

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene.  The photo I am using is seen directly below.  I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to work on the windows on the left side of the building. The tow partially hidden by the tree are now complete, the lower one in shade. The various roofs above are now also complete. To the extreme left, the tree is finished with a gradual darkening from left to right. Above, the chimney has been revised and the sky has been overpainted. Finally, the red car's windows have been given a bit of paint. That car will be the subject of next week's installment.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week.  See you then.
