Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.636

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the El Morro National Monument painting. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

The big change is the mid and foreground, which are now seen in colors similar to the butte above. Note that the blue juniper shadows appear just a bit brighter than in the actual painting. With the addition of my initials it is now done.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.635

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the El Morro National Monument painting. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

The big change here is the junipers. I've now painted a layer of blue shadow overlaid with green lit foliage. It has a nice texture to my eye. Note the shadow cast by the small bush out front. The cloud also has been revised a bit. Next week it's the foreground.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the El Morro National Monument painting. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have revised the various lit and shadowed surfaces of the butte. I've tried to avoid my usual blue-as-shadow and paint things as they appear in the photo. I've also revised the cloud. It is now less airy, more white than blue. Finally, I've added a layer of dark paint on the junipers. This is in preparation for the lighter green details to follow. You'll see what I mean.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.633

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the El Morro National Monument painting. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have decided to handle this painting from the top down. As such, I've concentrated on the sky and butte. The sky has been largely completed. Note the fluffy clouds to the far right. I may make minor revisions as things progress. As to the butte, I've divided it in shadowed and lit sections. The details will be seen in next week's cycle. There is much left to do but it's a good start.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the El Morro National Monument painting. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've added paint to all the remaining unpainted canvas. The butte is now seen in brown, the jumipers green and the foreground in a pale green. Note the clouds in the distant right rear, as seen in the photo.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. It is a scene that I photographed in El Morro National Monument a couple of years ago. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

I started with a pencil grid on both a print of the photo and the canvas. In this way I was able to transfer the elements with some accuracy. All of this has been done in blue. Next week will see some other colors.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.532

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've continued to refine the painting. Note that the yellow is now a bit more subdued. I've also darkened the blue shadowed portion of the junipers. This brings them forward a bit against the lighter blue of the butte. Out in the extreme front left, a new juniper has sprouted adding yet another layer. The painting is now completed.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's installment I've gone over every element of the painting. The highlighted areas of the butte are now a bit darker. The shadowed portion is a more consistent blue with only hints of the dark crevices. Out front there are big changes. The junipers now exist as separate units, each with a long shadow. Note that the shadows follow the slope of the ground. Each has lit areas to the left in green and blue shadow to the right. I'll have this done for next week.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's installment I've done a bit of refinement. The blue of the butte is now darker with a few additional details. It will receive additional layers of paint eventually. The contrast with the yellow, which has been overpainted, is striking. Below, I've added to the green area and the white of the canvas is now mostly obliterated. I've added to the blue shadowed portions of the shrubbery and begun the separation of what will be a long shadow. There will be big changes for next week. Stay tuned.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's installment I've painted over most of the surface of the canvas. The various elements now have mostly solid layers of paint. Each fills its respective space on the canvas. You can now get a sense where I am taking this piece. I still need to do lots of work in the foreground but things are going well so far.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Starting at the top, I have painted over the sky in a lighter blue. It's closer to the color that will eventually appear in the final version. Moving on to the butte, I have painted the yellowish highlights and adjacent blue shadows. I've been careful to delineate the location of the dark crevices. I've carried the yellow down to the foreground. Finally, I've painted the shadowed portion of what will be foliage in the foreground.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.527

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting an entirely new painting. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) It shows El Morro National Monument in New Mexico. I was recently there and enjoyed the hiking. I've been there several times before but never tire of it. The butte has become a signature rock over the centuries. As there is a constant pool of water at the base, it has seen many visitors going back to prehistoric times. At the top is a natural ampitheater and late Anasazi pueblo ruins. On the way down I spotted a pottery fragment that had apparently been washed down from the ruins. It was lying in the dirt just off a set of concrete steps. I was concerned that it would get destroyed or walk away with a visitor. I turned it in at the visitor center. I only wish that I had taken a photo.

I started with my usual grid and sketched the outline of the scene. I then began to add some paint. I've painted in the blue areas of shadow along with the outline of foliage below. Note the rough line below that will desingate the edge of the juniper area.

Saturday Painting Palooza Volume 317 + Bonus

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Cape May, New Jersey shingle style house. It is seen in the photo directly below. (I'm using my usual acrylic paints on an 8x8 inch canvas.)

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've been on vacation and was able to devote little time to the piece. I did manage to begin the lawn, currently seen as a swath of bright green in the foreground. The house now appears firmly grounded. ;-)

While away in the southwest on vacation, I visited the town of Pecos, New Mexico. There we visited Pecos National Historical Park. I photographed the scene, later painted on the small 5x5 inch canvas, seen directly below. I carried it along with a few tubes of paint and a single brush in my small backpack aboard my flight from New York. My hotel room in Santa Fe provided a nice substitute studio for my efforts.
