Saturday Painting Palooza Volume 309

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

This week I've finally addressed the long-suffering background. I did not want to paint the background seen in the photo. After some consideration, I settled on a simple mound with a thin bit of sky at the top. I'm not sure if this is a mountain or just some large shrubs, but it works for me. And with that, the painting is done.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.308

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

This week it's all about the details. Front and center is my rendition of the NYS license plate seen in the photo. I toyed with the idea of putting my initials there, something I did in a painting many years ago. In the end I decided to stay true to the photo. Above the plate is the famous prancing stallion. To the left, the wheels/rims have been completed. These are a fashionable split 5 spoke design. Below, the rear tire now has some tread for gripping the road. To the upper left, the side view mirror sprouts from the fender. Also revised is the lower panel running between the wheels.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.307

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

There are many changes this week. I was not satisfied with the placement of the righthand exhaust port. It was drooping and threw off the perspective. I have now moved it up into a place more consistent with the perspective of the car. I've also revised the air extractor, once again. I now consider that portion complete. The tailights now have their white centers. I've also revised (and enlarged) the rear wheel and tire.

I've finally started the highlights of the car body. When viewing a photo and considering it for use as a painting, I'm usually figuring how I would complete various aspects. Here, I had long anticipated the technique that I would use to paint the highlights. It was done with a thin, watery mixture of light blue paint. I think that it works fairly well, at least so far.

Saturday Painting Palooza Volume 306

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I wasn't able to accomplish as much as I would have liked for this week. NN11 took most of my available time, leaving little for installment 306. I did manage to push ahead with some details. The air extractor (below the license plate) now appears as it should. Note that the ridged sections are lit and the recessed portions are shadowed. To each side, the exhausts now poke through their respective ports, two to each side. (The one to the right is a bit too low and may need some revision.) Above, the marker lights now appear in red. The tires and rims now await only their final details. Things are going fairly well but there is much left to do.

Saturday Painting Palooza Volume 304

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week I've continued (exclusively) to refine the Ferrari. A darker layer of black now covers most of the car. I've reshaped the lights and exhaust ports. The window glass now appears in blue. Below the car, the shadow now appears darker, probably a bit too dark. I'll resolve that before we're done. The car is almost ready to receive its highlights.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.303

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

I've addressed several areas for this week's installment. First, there's that bright green background. The final version will not look at all like this but for now it provides your color-challenged host with a nice foil for the car. Newly covered in paint are the the lights, wheels (or rims for the gearheads on attendance) and the exhaust ports. The body has a fresh coat of black but this will not be the last. Finally, the stripes on the pavement have been darkened.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.302

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the painting of the Ferrari F430. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I'm using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting.

Armed with only tubes of black and white (and derivatives thereof), I started to fill in the outline of the car. First came the thin black paint covering the body panels. More thin paint, in gray, was applied to the windows. Next came the tires. Note the diffuser, in grays and black, at the lower rear of the car. All of these are in only the preliminary phase but you can see how things are coming together even at this early stage.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.301

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be starting an entirely new painting. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

No doubt that regular readers will be a bit surprised by my subject matter. I've actually been carrying around this photo of a Ferrari F430 for some time. I like this shot both as a fan of fine cars and as a painter. It presents the vehicle in an interesting way and provides challenging forms and reflections. I'm looking forward to painting the blue highlights onto the black body color. And I needed to get away from all those Cape May houses for just a bit. (But not for good, of course!)

This one will be painted on a smallish 5x7 canvas using my usual acrylic paints

I began by painting a rough outline of the Ferrari in blue. Once again, placement on the canvas is crucial. This is actually my second attempt, the first one having been done on an inadequate square canvas.
