Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.729

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below.

I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I struggled with the large butte and went through 6 or so revisions. I settled on this final version somewhat satisfied. The brushstrokes mirror those seen on the mid distance buttes. Finally, the far rear has been revised with just the suggestion of additional rocky geography.

Since last time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued on to the large left side shadowed butte, a part to which I have not looked forward. I attempted to paint the various levels with limited detail, as seen in the photo. I'm not really happy with this and will make another attempt for next week's installment.

I've finally begun the various buttes and shadows of the central portion of the scene. I have tried simlar scenes before with litle success. However, I am happy with these so far. May it continue to go well.

I've added more color, darkening things a bit to see if the image will have the illusion of great distance. Note the brown lit buttes and dark shadows below. I've left the far distance lighter for an attempt at aerial perspective.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

I've gone ahead and added some color to each of the elements. I like to get an idea of how things will work by adding some thin color on the canvas. It's still easy to change things around if it isn't working well. I'm happy with things so far.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting of the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

I started with my now usual pencil grid, upon which I began my sketch. Note that I draw the same grid over the photo for purposes of an accurate pencil sketch on the canvas. The result is a reasonably accurate outline sketch of the scene.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using (mine) is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to work on the elements surrounding the central buttes. Note the vegetation on the slope behind as well as more on the lower slope. To the far rear I have painted the far buttes in a pale brown. The painting is now finished.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using (mine) is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Now the fun begins. I've got a nice brown on the various buttes with just a few highlights. There will be more highlights as well as the green to the right rear and left foreground. Note the pale backdrop.

This week I will be continuing with the painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using (mine) is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I'm in the process of figuring which colors work best with the various elements. I'm going with a darker brown color for the buttes, some of which is seen in the photo. The more distant rocks will have a lighter version of the same brown. Ochre highlights will be set off nicely.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using (mine) is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've now added preliminary paint to those white spaces. The sky appears in blue, buttes in brown and just a hint of green. I like to lay out things this way to see if the if things look right. Naturally I'll adjust things as I go along. Sometimes those adjustments are vast changes. Hopefully that isn't the case here.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. I will be painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I'm using (mine) is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 7x6 inch canvas.

I started with a pencil grid on both a print of the photo and the canvas. In this way I was able to transfer the elements to the canvas in an accurate pencil sketch. I've gone over those lines in some blue paint. Things are off to a good start.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.630

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. I'm not working from a photo this time, just from the images left in my mind's eye from both our visit to the north rim and the gallery images.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Starting at the top, I have finished the sky, adding clouds in a yellowish color. Below that, the buttes have been revised, especially the area to the right side. The blue shadowed area has also been completed. Those 2 twisted junipers have been revised, with some green contrasting nicely with the darker underpaint. The foreground area has been overpainted with a bit of light and shadow. Finally, the foreground underbrush is now lighter green. The painting is now finished.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. I'm not working from a photo this time, just from the images left in my mind's eye from both our visit to the north rim and the gallery images.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I didn't get as much done as I would have like but there are several notable changes for this week's cycle. Starting at the top, the sky and clouds now cover the formerly vacant section of canvas. I've worked in yellow and white for an end of day look. Down in the overlook, I've added the orange buttes which are now complete with a few highlights. Up on the foreground, I've added a few orange highlights.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. I'm not working from a photo this time, just from the images left in my mind's eye from both our visit to the north rim and the gallery images.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've now begun to overpaint the various elements barely visible in last week's version. Note the tortured junipers and underbrush. Out in the distance I've added more color to the buttes and shadowed area. It's starting to come together. Next week more definition.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's cycle I've added to the very front and rear of the image. Out in front, I've continued the wispy portions of the buttes down into the shadows. A similar effect is seen in the original photo. In the far rear, I've broken up the distant cliffs/buttes into smaller shapes. The painting is now done.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've darkened the blue of the foreground elements. They are now clearly set apart from the distant elements to the rear. The banding of the foreground buttes is now mostly complete. I've attempted to mirror the patterns of the photo without getting bogged down in too much detail.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I have continued to refine the scene. The edges of various elements are now sharp and no white is seen. I've also began to add color to better differentiate the distant buttes. The distant shadowed portion is different as well. Up front I've begun the banding of color.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6x6 inch canvas.

I have painted in the major elements set down in my pencil sketch. Things are rough right now but you can get a sense of where I'm going. Buttes appear in brown, shadow in blue. There is much left to do.
