Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.229

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be starting a new painting. This one, like the last, is a structure in Cape May, New Jersey. I will be using the photo seen directly below.

I took this photo this past May. This structure probably started life as a residence but has since found other purposes. It has suffered some unfortunate "renovations" but is largely intact. Anyway, the form and shadows appealed to me.

I'll be using my usual acrylics on a 5 by 5 inch canvas. (Yes, it's a small one.)

As usual, the placement on the canvas of the first few lines sets the path for all the comes after. I've begun by painting the outline of the structure. Around the building, I've left only a small amount of space. This worked well in the prior piece. I've also painted in some of the details for purposes of illustration.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.228

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the Cape May, New Jersey painting.  The photo that I will be using is seen directly below.

I'll be using my usual acrylics on an unusual 6 by 6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I've continued to work on the painting.

There are a number of changes this week. On the roof, I've added a layer of brown paint to the main body. The dormer roof and that of the second story porch have both received highlights facing the left side. These elements give the roof a strong 3 dimensonal appearance. The roof is now complete.

In the foreground, the lawn has received the shrubs seen placed against the foundation. The lawn itself has been separated into highlighted and shadowed areas. The same is true of the shrubs.

Behind the house, the surrounding structures have been faded a bit. They are now a bit less prominent and gain some distance from the main structure.

With these changes, the painting is now complete.

The current and final state of the painting is seen directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have an entirely new project. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.227

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the Cape May, New Jersey painting.  The photo that I will be using is seen directly below.

I'll be using my usual acrylics on an unusual 6 by 6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I've continued to work on the painting.

There are many changes this week. The house now sits on a proper foundation, painted with a derivative of the main body color. To the left side, the foundation has received highlights deliniating the piers below the sections of the porch. Above these, the left side of the house is now highlighted. The lefthand body color is now lighter and the white trim is, well, white. All the other trim (shadowed) is now seen in blue.

Behind the house, the surrounding structures loom in blue. I may have to adjust and fade this color a bit. Finally, the sky has received a layer of blue. Yet to receive attention are the roof and lawn areas.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.226

Hello again painting fans.

This week I'll be continuing with the Cape May, New Jersey painting.  The photo that I will be using is seen directly below.

I'll be using my usual acrylics on an unusual 6 by 6 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time, I've continued to work on the painting.

Once again, I've applied an additional layer of paint over the body of the house. Another thin layer of brown has been applied over the prior color. The result is very close to the weathered brown of the subject house. Yes, I'm finally done adding layers. I will add highlights to the left side later on.

The many white details have been revised. With the exception of the roof dormer, these many details have their final form if not all of their final highlights. Note that the railings have all of their supporting elements. One thing that will be revised is the railing on the far left. It needs to be angled back to gain visual perspective. Somehow I missed this aspect of its appearance.

The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
