Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.528

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of El Morro National Monument. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on and 8x8 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Starting at the top, I have painted over the sky in a lighter blue. It's closer to the color that will eventually appear in the final version. Moving on to the butte, I have painted the yellowish highlights and adjacent blue shadows. I've been careful to delineate the location of the dark crevices. I've carried the yellow down to the foreground. Finally, I've painted the shadowed portion of what will be foliage in the foreground.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.527

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting an entirely new painting. I am using the photo seen directly below. (A borrowed photo.) It shows El Morro National Monument in New Mexico. I was recently there and enjoyed the hiking. I've been there several times before but never tire of it. The butte has become a signature rock over the centuries. As there is a constant pool of water at the base, it has seen many visitors going back to prehistoric times. At the top is a natural ampitheater and late Anasazi pueblo ruins. On the way down I spotted a pottery fragment that had apparently been washed down from the ruins. It was lying in the dirt just off a set of concrete steps. I was concerned that it would get destroyed or walk away with a visitor. I turned it in at the visitor center. I only wish that I had taken a photo.

I started with my usual grid and sketched the outline of the scene. I then began to add some paint. I've painted in the blue areas of shadow along with the outline of foliage below. Note the rough line below that will desingate the edge of the juniper area.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.526

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the large gabled Victorian. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10 by 10 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I'll start at the top. The left side chimney now has a widened top similar to the one in the photo. Above, clouds now peek out on the left and right of the house. Moving down to the base of the house, the flower bed now wraps around the house. in the distance, the front path now leads up to the porch. Behind the house, the shrubs in the distance have been repainted with light and dark areas. Finally, the front lawn has repainted as well. The painting is now finished.

The current and final state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.525

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the large gabled Victorian. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 10 by 10 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've made some fair progress this week. Starting on the left side, The bay window has a revised foundation and window details. I've added some blue shadowing to the window edges and moulding details. Above, I've straightened the lines of the angled shadow. I've also revised the shadow cast by the porch. Above, I've had to straighten the roof. The roofline above the second floor windows actually went up just past the central gable. There is now a shadow line just below the roof. Note that the roof above the far right gable now overlaps the main roof. Details have been added to the chimneys but they will change yet again for next week. Note also that the same blue shadowing has been added in a number of different places amongst windows, upper porch posts and moulding. Finally, blue shadow has been added to the leftward-facing roof sections. I may have to change this again.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Starting on the left side bay window, the trim below the roof is now seen in a color consistent with other areas of the house. Above, the angled shadow has now been straightened. It had a curve previously. To the far right side, the first floor window appears for the first time. To its left, the lit area now pokes through into the shadow of the porch. Finally, I repainted the brown of the stone foundation sections as well as the far right portion.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
