Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.506

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I finally began to paint the left side of the house. I had intended to paint the tree/foliage seen on that side in the original photo. However, the huge mass of green dominated the painting. So I pruned it all back to the slim cone of green seen in the final photo. It will need to be reshaped with a curve outward toward the base as well as appropriate shadow and highlights. I've also continued the architecture of the structure. The upright shadows above the red car will need to be pruned back a bit as well. Note the windows facing toward the left. Shadow partially covers the upper window while completely darkening the one below. Finally, the upper window to the far left has been started but only as an outline. It and its brother below will be in place for next week.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.505

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

It's funny how one can spend considerable time on a painting without making more than moderate visual change. Such is my progress for this week. I have spent considerable time revising the area between and just above the 2 cars. Note the new lit area on the side of the steps. It makes for a cascade of light when seen with the lit porch posts above and to the left. The foliage to the left of the steps has contours and brighter color. Below that, the sidewalk, curb and street have all been revised. Lit and shadowed areas now alternate as in the original photo. The shadow below the far car has been revised a bit as well. Above, the porch roof and extreme left post have been revised and simplified. Finally, to the left side of the painting, the lit side of the house has received both yellow and blue paint.

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

Starting at the top, I've now finally completed the triple window in the gable. I've attempted to maintain tones similar to the other windows below. Going down to street level, I've pulled the green foliage over the lower front step area. This has actually improved the perspective of the steps which previously seemed slightly out of phase with the house. The curb area has been adjusted as well. This section of the painting will require further work but the various elements are now finally all in place. To the right, the far car has now been completed. Along with the car's various muted details, a shadow has been added underneath. Above, the windows in the red house have been completed. There is still much more to do.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.503

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the painting of the Cape May street scene. The photo I am using is seen directly below. I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8 by 8 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

There are a number of changes for this week's cycle. Starting to the far right (not a good place to be), the bouse next door is now repainted and partly in shadow. Note how the shadow includes that of the chimney. The windows are still in need of some attention. Below the red house, the blue car has been darkened a bit. The grill and headlights are ready to receive details. Just above, the front steps are now fully painted. The blues are consistent with those up above. To the left of the steps, the porch railing is now in shadow with a slash of lit section down the middle. The left side of the porch now has railing and highlights. Finally, the red car has received more paint, appearing a bit oversaturated in the photo for some reason.
