Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.173

Welcome back.

This week we'll be continuing with the painting of the grille of a 1949 Packard automobile. The photo that I'm using is seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylics on an 8x10 canvas.

Seen in a vintage illustration directly below is the entire vehicle showing the grille in context.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've concentrated most of my efforts on the wide chrome area just below the central grill. Seen for the first time is a reflection to the left side of the bumper that is apparently the roof of the yellowish house reflected in several other surfaces. Also depicted is the rather deep blue sky. The remainder of the upper bumper has been painted in blue and white areas as seen in the photo.

The edge of the bumper has been painted in lines of blue, white and gray. I am not completely satisfied and will revise this slightly.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.172

Welcome back.

This week we'll be continuing with the painting of the grille of a 1949 Packard automobile.

The photo that I'm using is seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylics on an 8x10 canvas.

Seen in a vintage illustration directly below is the entire vehicle showing the grille in context.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've concentrated most of my efforts on the central grill. More of the defining shadows have been added to the horizontal grill bars. The horizontals now have shadowed upper surfaces. The dividing vertical bar now has detailed surfaces including the colored badge. Above the badge, the reflection of the nearby house now covers the entire upper central grill.

Below the central grill, reflected areas have been started but will receive further attention later on. Finally the headlight has received some attention. It has been shadowed with some thin black paint. It too will finished later on.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.171

Welcome back.

This week we'll be continuing with the painting of the grille of a 1949 Packard automobile.

The photo that I'm using is seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylics on an 8x10 canvas.

Seen in a vintage illustration directly below is the entire vehicle showing the grille in context.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting. I started by adding some dark areas to the grille openings. With this change I am anticipating the the contrast that will be needed in that portion of the piece later on.

I've also painted in another layer of the green body color. Finally, I added a layer of blue and white to the various sections of the bumper and shadowig to the headlight. All of these changes are seen in the photo directly below.

I continued by further refining the grille bars. The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.170

Welcome back.

This week we'll be continuing with the painting of the grille of a 1949 Packard automobile. The photo that I'm using is seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylics on an 8x10 canvas.

Seen in a vintage illustration directly below is the entire vehicle showing the grille in context.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting. I have started to paint the green body color. Of course this is only the preliminary layer. I've also painted a thin blue on the chrome parts. This will become opaque and provide a background for all those chromey details to come. In fact, I've started those details on the bumperguard. The headlight has also received some attention. Finally, the first layer of the roadway makes an appearance, seen in the lower lefthand corner.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. Next week I'll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

President Elect Obama!

It was a late night, but one well worth staying up for. I was worred early on, with Senator Obama having only Vermont in his column and Senator McSame starting to gain electoral votes. But then things began to change dramatically. Pennsylvania went blue and things started to snowball.

Upon reaching 207 electoral votes, it was clear that with the addition of the reliably blue 3 west coast states, it would be an Obama win. And shortly thereafter, NBC broke away. Upon returning, I expected more results but there was already a graphic indicating Obama as the winner. We were elated to finally see what we had long anticipated.

I woke the 9 year old boran2 boy to tell him. He was excited. Seeing his face it was clear that this was worth the loss of a few minutes of sleep.

Congratulations to Senators Obama and Biden. And let the change begin.
