Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.142

Welcome back.

This week we will be continuing with the new painting that I started last week, the Victorian house in Las Vegas, New Mexico, seen in the photo directly below. As usual, I'll be using acrylics. This one is large for me, the canvas is 11x14.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've continued to work on the building facade. The windows have received badly needed attention. They now appear in pale blue and white. Those below the porch roof have shadowing as is seen in the original photo. Also below the porch roof, the wall and windows have now been properly arranged. Previously I had the windows where solid wall should have been.

In the background, the buildings to either side have been painted in pale shades. These keep them separated visually and convey a sense of some distance. Finally, the sky has received dramatic clouds, also resembling mountains as per Madame boran. Choose your own version.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. I'll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Aliens Endorse...

Not to be overshadowed by the drama of the Democratic race to the nomination, those in the mothership have made their wishes known. Apparently they support a Repugnican in the White House.

Red colored lights that formed a square and then a triangle were seen floating over north Phoenix late Monday, a sight reminiscent of an unexplained 1997 sighting that has become part of the area's lore.

Note that they displayed red lights, a clear signal that the GOP's influence has been vastly underestimated. Democratic candidates take note.

The truth is out there.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol. 141

Each week I try to make changes that are readily visible. I hope that these are. I've actually spent considerable time working on the building facade. The turret now appears in the lighter yellow color of the photo. The porch posts below

have received considerable attention, now reshaped and with added detail. The heavy blue shadow of the porch and to the left is now actually composed of several blue hues. The windows and surrounding detail to the far right of the building have been reshaped and enhanced. They now more closely resemble the photo. Down in front the area that will become the shrubbery has been the lucky recipient of some excess paint but does not resemble in any way what it will eventually be.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. I'll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

March Of The Squills

For IVG, here is my squill, or at least that is what the seller called it when I bought it more than a decade ago. It was little more than just a couple of leaves then. It is an overlfowing jungle of a plant now. (Excuse the photography.)

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol. 140

Welcome back.

This week we will be continuing with the new painting that I started last week, the Victorian house in Las Vegas, New

Mexico, seen in the photo directly below. As usual, I'll be using acrylics. This one is large for me, the canvas is 11x14.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

This week it's all about those heavy shadows on the building. I've added shadows to the left side of the building,

covering most of that side. The shadows are done in a blue that is close in color to the roof. I'll be doing some

differentiation in the coming weeks. Also receiving attention is the porch, now also heavily shadowed below the roof.
I've added ochre to the porch posts, now better defined and contrasting well.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. I'll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments

Federal Lease Sales Based on $30.00 Per Barrel Oil

Imagine that you are a seller of ice cream cones during a time of high demand (summer), but price them at levels that one might encounter in the dead of winter. Imagine further that the winter in question is, say, 5 years earlier. That would likely be a formula for minimizing profits. That is not unlike what is currently happening to Arctic drilling lease sales.

See the rest here. (Sorry for the link.)

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol. 139

Since that time, I have continued to work on the painting. Unfortunately the preparation of my income taxes kept me from doing as much as I would have liked.

I have concentrated my efforts on the ochre body color and details. The porch posts have begun to take form and the white gaps on the walls have been filled in. These changes are not final and will receive further work in the coming weeks.

The current appearance of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

That's about it for now. I'll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.

Tribal Council

Up for ejection from the virtual island of Left Blogistan this week is Mr.John Yoo, author of the just released torture memo. Perhaps the term memo doesn't quite capture it. Some 81 pages long, it is essentially a game plan of how to avoid responsibility for harsh interrogation techniques. Mr.Yoo was then employed at the Justice Department. (Oh, the irony.)

NYT link

Later rescinded, it undoubtedly emboldened the Bush administration to undertake its unfortunate policies.

Mr.Yoo, you are ejected from the virtual island. The tribe has spoken.
