Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.628

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. I'm not working from a photo this time, just from the images left in my mind's eye from both our visit to the north rim and the gallery images.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've now begun to overpaint the various elements barely visible in last week's version. Note the tortured junipers and underbrush. Out in the distance I've added more color to the buttes and shadowed area. It's starting to come together. Next week more definition.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.627

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. My family and I were recently out west for a week in Arizona and Utah. As is our usual custom, we visited a number of galleries in Sedona, Az to peruse some local artwork. After seeing so many Grand Canyon pieces I was inspired to try my own. I'm not working from a photo this time, just from the images left in my mind's eye from both our visit to the north rim and the gallery images. Point Imperial at the canyon was truly inspirational.

I started by separating the canvas into three parts, the elevated foreground, the canyon overlook beyond and the sky. I continued by adding some thin color to the various elements. It doesn't look like much right now but things will be much clearer next week. I promise.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.626

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the painting of Heritage House in Kanab, Utah, seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

There are a number of changes for this week's cycle. On the right-facing side, I've changed the lit and shadowed areas a bit. Things are now a bit less rigid. Below, I've added a second small plant next to the house. Over the porch I've added the missing roof section with lit portion. Finally, I've revised the cloud.

The current and final state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Paintiing Palooza Vol.625

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will continuing with the painting of Heritage House in Kanab, Utah, seen in the photo directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.

There are a number of changes for this week's cycle. On either side, I've painted a hint of the trees seen in the original photo. To the left side of the revised lawn, the house now casts a shadow. Against that shadow, a small plant provides a bit of contrast out in front. Note the brackets under the front gable eaves. On the right side, all 3 windows have been revised. Note the lit portions. Ignore my initials, this piece is not yet done.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
