Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.646

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Cape May, New Jersey street scene. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

The holidays have limited my progress but there are some significant changes for this week's cycle. Starting at the top, I have overpainted the sky so that it now appears solid. Ther roof of the central house has been repainted in gray. I have begun to paint the lit portions in a pale yellow rather than the white seen in the photo. It just works better. Finally, I've added some green at the base.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here. (Currently under construction.)

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.645

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Cape May, New Jersey street scene. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

I've begun to add some paint to the canvas. I have outlined the 3 buildings in blue. Filling in the sky and right side structure in the same color gives me an idea of how things will look. Note that the lit areas have been left white to help in that regard. Next week some other colors.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.644

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting a new painting. It is a scene in Cape May, New Jersey. I've actually been interested in the house at the center for some time. The time to paint it has finally come. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

I started with a pencil grid on both a print of the photo and the canvas. In this way I was able to transfer the elements to the canvas in an accurate pencil sketch. I am pleased with it so far. Things are off to a good start.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.643

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Red Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

There are three changes for this week's cycle. Starting at the top, the fully formed clouds now appear over the hoodoos, providing just a little more depth. Secondly, I've adjusted the trees just a bit, especially the tallest one. Finally, I've added some variation to the foreground. The painting is now complete.

The current and final state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.

Saturday Painting Palooza Vol.642

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Red Canyon painting. The photo that I'm using is seen directly below. I'll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5x7 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

For this week's cycle I've concentrated my efforts on the trees. They consist mostly of evergreens and that's how I've painted the scene. Note the blue shadows to the left side. I will make a few small changes for next week but the trees are mostly done. They make for a huge difference.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
