Saturday Painting Palooza Vol. 401

Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be starting an entirely new painting. The photo that I will be using is seen directly below. It is a house in Cape May, New jersey, like a few that I've done before. This one will be a little different. I'm entitling it "New American Gothic", starting where Grant Wood left off. (I will be using my usual acrylics on an 8x10 canvas.)

As to Grant Wood, this piece also includes a Gothic window like his well known painting. It is seen in the gable to the right, at the top of the building. Today's American Gothic will include the American flag and minivan in front. Hopefully, viewers will understand.

I started with an outline in blue. Blue will be dominant here, with highlights in white. Or at least that's what seems appropriate now but may change. Anyway, the present state is seen directly below.

I'll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.

Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.

I think you need a pitchfork in there somewhere. What do we get them for, anyway? But I do like the flag and minivan idea; when I saw the pic, my first thought was "oh, combining architecture and cars, good choice."
